About Fulcrum

Insurance is the backbone of the global economy. Every business needs it, but most people never see the infrastructure that makes it work. Commercial insurance brokerages are the connective tissue between businesses that need coverage and the carriers that underwrite risk. They are the operational engine of a $1.5 trillion industry, and right now, that engine runs on manual labor.

Fulcrum is building the AI platform that automates insurance drudgery, starting with the workflows that consume the most time and create the most risk. Our customers are enterprise brokerages, and they already save thousands of hours and millions of dollars a year using Fulcrum. They love the product. We have deep adoption within the accounts we serve, and we're just getting started.

We raised our $25M Series A from CRV, South Park Commons, and Foundational Capital. We have achieved multiple seven figures in ARR in just over a year, serving customers from many of the top 50 brokers in the country. The team is ex-DoorDash, Affirm, Samsara, Harvey, Atlassian, Alchemy, McKinsey, and others. Our office is right by the beautiful waters in San Francisco.

About the Role

This is the second product designer ever at Fulcrum. You will work directly with the product and engineering on Fulcrum's core product surfaces. As a designer, you will…

  • Set the tone for how Fulcrum looks and feels. Every interaction, layout, and detail should feel intentional and earned.

  • Turn genuinely hard brokerage workflows into UI that just works. The complexity is real, with dense data, many states, high stakes. Yet, the experience should feel obvious to someone who has never opened a policy document in their life.

  • Own the full arc of a design problem. From the first customer conversation to the shipped product to what you learn after it lands.

  • Get close to customers. Run your own interviews, develop your own point of view, and bring it back into the work.

  • Use AI as a core part of how you design, not a shortcut, but a force multiplier. Prioritize high craftsmanship over feature slop.

What You’ll Do

  • Example projects

    • Designing a proof-of-insurance delivery experience that synthesizes data from multiple sources into a single, precise PDF document. The paper that sits behind multi-billion dollar construction projects, real estate deals, and enterprise contracts.

    • Building a playbook experience that lets brokerages encode how their best account managers think, the rules, exceptions, and judgment calls that today live only in someone's head, and apply it automatically across their entire book of business.

    • Designing a document comparison workflow that reads hundreds of pages of policy language against a client contract, surfaces every gap and discrepancy, and gives the account manager a clear path to confidently close and service contracts worth tens of millions of dollars.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of product design experience on complex workflows and B2B SaaS products

  • Experience that shows systems thinking, not just visual polish. We want to see how you handled the hard states, the edge cases, and the tradeoffs

  • Familiarity with running your own customer research. You have been in the room without a researcher, and you know how to turn what you heard into a design decision

  • High urgency, high craft, and great communication. That’s what makes a great team player at Fulcrum.

  • You believe that even the most unglamorous enterprise workflow deserves to be simple and beautiful. The account manager processing her 200th certificate of the week deserves a great product too.

Nice to Haves

  • You have strong visual chops. You sweat the details on layout, typography, color, and spacing and it shows in your portfolio

  • You have designed for a vertical SaaS product where the domain is genuinely complex and the users are industry specialists, not tech-savvy generalists

  • You have been at an early stage company and know what full ownership of design actually feels like
