Job description

HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire an experienced Manufacturing Diagnostics Engineer to join its team responsible for executing processes to bring up, validate, test, and troubleshoot the company vehicles while implementing diagnostic systems and infrastructure.

In this role, you will develop and refine processes for testing electrical and firmware systems to support end-of-line diagnostics during the manufacturing process. You’ll be a critical link between engineering and production, ensuring vehicles meet functionality, reliability, and quality standards.

The ideal candidate is a skilled diagnostics engineer with a strong background in automotive systems, controller integration, and network troubleshooting. You are hands-on, detail-oriented, and thrive in fast-paced environments where collaboration and problem-solving are essential.

Available shifts/schedules:
8:00AM to 4:30PM with 30-min lunch
8:00AM to 5:00PM with 1-hr lunch

As a Manufacturing Diagnostics Engineer, you'll:
  • Take the lead in addressing all electrical and functional challenges on the manufacturing line. This includes troubleshooting issues related to software/firmware, wiring harnesses, various networking protocols (CAN, LIN, Automotive and Standard Ethernet, GMSL, etc.), hardware, and infrastructure.
  • Validate vehicle behavior, triage issues, identify root causes, and lead resolutions during testing, bring-up, firmware updates, and calibration.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineers to collect and interpret requirements and translate them into scalable validation test scripts and test cases.
  • Develop automated troubleshooting systems and operator guidance for the manufacturing line.
  • Build test plans and test coverage for vehicle production, considering vehicle behaviors, functionalities, and cycle times.
  • Design and implement future manufacturing lines with next-generation diagnostic architectures to support higher-volume production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in automotive controller integration testing or test script development/programming (Python or similar high-level languages)
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills, including reading, troubleshooting, and injecting packets over CAN, LIN, and Ethernet protocols
  • Solid background with Linux, including shell, bash, and terminal scripting
  • Experience using GitHub or similar tools for software management

Bonus Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with the integration and automation of manufacturing and test equipment
  • Background in creating, reading, and writing to SQL database tables
  • Experience with computer network engineering, TCP/IP protocols, and API communications

Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins 90 days after start date)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short and long term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Hayward, CA area.

HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.
